Homefront Health Care invests $175K in EMR

Posted 8/20/12

PROVIDENCE – Homefront Health Care, one of the largest providers of in-home health care in Rhode Island, recently invested $175,000 in upgrading its electronic medical-records system and its remote-patient monitoring.

The investment includes the purchase of 20 laptop computers for use by nurses and therapists in patients’ homes. In addition, it will fund a Telehealth program, which will enable a patient’s vital signs to monitored remotely, including weight, blood pressure and blood-oxygen content.

The funding for the new technology investment came from an anonymous corporate donor, the Champlin Foundations, Shriners of Rhode Island, Verizon, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and the Roddy-Holden Foundation. Homefront also received $45,000 from the Rhode Island Foundation.

Opened in 1966, Homefront is a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive home health care through a team of nurses, therapists, homemakers, social workers and companions. It has offices in East Providence, Harmony, Providence, Warwick, Westerly and Woonsocket. •
