PROVIDENCE – The Hotel Providence has been acquired by Linchris Hotel Corp., a hotel management company, in Hanover, Mass.
The luxury boutique hotel at 139 Mathewson St., built in 1882, features 80 rooms and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It was purchased for $12,150,000 from Westminster Street Hotel LLC, according to information from Providence City Hall.
“We are excited to be the new stewards of this historic gem,” Christopher Gistis, CEO of Linchris Hotel Corp., said in a statement. “While Hotel Providence has undergone several transitions, we are here for the long-term, bringing financial stability and ensuring the property a successful future.”
Plans for a new restaurant, featuring a chef-driven European brasserie concept, at the hotel will be revealed in January, with a grand opening planned for later in the month, according to a press release from Linchris Hotel Corp.
It will be operated by restaurateurs Alethia and Massimiliano Mariotta, owners of Vinya, a tapas-style restaurant three blocks from the hotel. Aspire is the current restaurant at the hotel.

Hotel Providence’s new general manager, Kelly Lajoie, described the hotel as “beautiful” and noted its location in the center of the city’s arts and entertainment district.

Hotel Providence has been the recipient of AAA’s Four Diamond Award for 10 consecutive years and boasts an art collection, as well as more than 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
Founded in 1985, Linchris Hotel Corp. owns and manages 36 hotels.
