Housing Network, city launch program

PROVIDENCE – The Housing Network of Rhode Island and city of Providence have launched a new down-payment and closing-cost assistance program for low-income home buyers.
The program applies to purchases of homes in Providence. Income eligibility is based on the size of the family.
A single homeowner can earn no more than $41,650, for example, while a family of two can earn no more than $47,600. A family of four, which could include a single parent and three children, is eligible if the family income doesn’t exceed $59,500.
Under the program, qualified families can receive up to $20,000 in assistance, according to Melina Lodge, director of programs at the Housing Network.
The program is provided through federal funds. The Housing Network of Rhode Island, an association of community development organizations, will administer the program. The application and instructions should be available soon at www.housingnetworkri.org. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first served basis.
