PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Housing Resources Commission has awarded $11.5 million in grants to 26 affordable housing projects in the state as part of the Building Homes Rhode Island program, HousingWorks Rhode Island said Monday.

The grants are funded by the $25 million affordable housing bond Rhode Island voters approved in November 2012 and are expected to help create 370 new housing units in the state. All but eight of the new units are planned as rentals.

The 26 projects are located in 12 different communities. Nine of the projects are slated for sites in Providence.

The remainder of the bond will be awarded in spring 2014.

  • $1,449,127 to Newport Housing Authority for 111 units at Park Holm in Newport.
