Hydrocephalus foundation holds dinner

PAWTUCKET – The Rhode Island chapter of the Pediatric Hydrocephalus Foundation will hold its third annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for Hydrocephalus Awareness on June 9 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph’s Parish Hall on Mendon Road in Cumberland.
The organization seeks to raise awareness about hydrocephalus, a brain disorder occurring in around one in every 500 births in which excessive fluid that greatly debilitates those afflicted and, in some cases, causes death.
The dinner will feature DJ entertainment, silent auctions and raffles. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 4-12. Children 3 and under are free.
Last year the foundation donated $4,250 to Hasbro Children’s Hospital from dinner proceeds. This year it will donate to local hospitals and research facilities to cater to pediatric hydrocephalus.
Since December 2010 the national foundation has awarded $70,000 in grants and donations to hospitals, neuroscience institutes, and medical research centers for hydrocephalus research and education.
