IRS publishes free resources to assist self-employed taxpayers

WASHINGTON – The IRS has put together free resources for taxpayers who are self-employed or involved in the sharing economy.
The resources are part of a series of informational releases the federal agency is publishing ahead of the upcoming tax filing season.
“Sole proprietors and independent contractors can get helpful information from the IRS Small Business and Self-Employed Tax Center,” according to the agency. “This resource includes online tools such as the tax calendar for businesses and self-employed, which has key dates and necessary actions for each month of the year.”
For taxpayers who provide services, such as rides through the ridesharing app Uber, or the lodging app Airbnb, the IRS has created the “sharing economy resource center,” which includes a number of useful tips.
