Inaugural events announced

PROVIDENCE – The Raimondo Inaugural Committee has announced details of the “Make it in Rhode Island” inaugural events, which include a special WaterFire lighting, along with an open house at the Statehouse and a family ice skate.

Events are free and open to the public.

“It’s time to turn around Rhode Island, and it is critical that we come together to make it happen. This is an opportunity to celebrate what makes our state great and all we have to build upon for our comeback,” Gov.-elect Gina M. Raimondo said in a joint statement with her husband, Andy Moffit.

The following is a list of “Make It In Rhode Island” inaugural events:
Tuesday, Jan. 6

  • Mass at St. Raymond’s Church, 1240 No. Main St., Providence, 9 a.m.
  • Inauguration of Gov. Gina M. Raimondo and the general officers of The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, Statehouse, 12 p.m.
  • WaterFire Providence Celebration, 6 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 10

  • Open house at the Statehouse; hosted by Gov. Gina M. Raimondo and First Gentleman Andy Moffit, the event will feature tastings from Rhode Island restaurants, and food and beverage producers, as well as performances from local groups. Admission is free with a suggested donation of a nonperishable food item to the Rhode Island Food Bank; 82 Smith St., Providence, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Family ice skate with Raimondo’s family; Skating and ice skate rentals are free. Hot apple cider and doughnuts will be provided. Alex and Ani Providence Ice Rink, 2 Kennedy Plaza, 2-3 p.m.
