INDEPENDENCE FINANCIAL PARTNERS recently donated hundreds of backpacks, gloves hats, hand warmers and other necessities to the House of Hope Community Development Corp.’s Harrington Hall Shelter. The shelter is the largest men’s overflow shelter in Rhode Island.

Independence Financial Partners collected more than 1,000 hats, hand warmers, gloves, gift cards and backpacks for residents of the House of Hope Community Development Corp.’s Harrington Hall Shelter.
“We appreciate Independence Financial Partners consistently stepping up to the plate and helping out,” stated Jean Johnson, executive director of the House of Hope CDC. “In times like this, when our need is so great, we rely on the generous donations from our community. These simple acts of kindness make a huge difference in the lives of our clients.”
The Harrington Hall Shelter is the state’s largest men’s overflow shelter. Last year, the shelter served 998 individuals, helping them to move onto permanent and stable housing. The shelter also served more than 40,000 meals last year.
Each night, about 100-120 men seek shelter in the 88-bed facility, where they are provided with a safe place to sleep and a hot meal, as well as an opportunity to shower in the morning. The shelter also provides case management, education and support groups. •
