In 2011, the U.S. Postal Service introduced a set of stamps celebrating some of the nation’s most influential industrial designers and their work. Matthew Bird, who teaches the history of industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design, will give a presentation on the objects and designers chosen by USPS during Friday’s salon at the Providence Athenaeum. Bird will also discuss some of the other pioneering designers who were left out, providing an overview of industrial design, its history and role in our society.
