Providence under consideration for title of best community in America

PROVIDENCE – The city of Providence is one of 64 communities being considered for the “Best Town in America” by readers of Outside Magazine.
Voting begins today at the magazine’s website, Outside Online, and continues over the next six weeks for six rounds.
To qualify as the nation’s best, the cities and towns have to be known for their restaurants and farmers’ markets, friendly neighborhoods and hiking and biking trail access – what the magazine calls “the perfect jumping-off point for adventure.”
The Santa Fe, N.M.-based magazine brands itself for active and adventure lifestyles. It covers travel, sports, adventure, health, and fitness, personalities, the environment and the overall culture of the world “outside.”
The magazine’s editors selected 60 candidates for the title, while readers chose four “wild card” entries through Instagram using the hashtag #BestTowns2015. The wild card entries are New York City; Roanoke, Va.; Port Angeles, Wash., and Saugatuck, Mich.
Providence is one of 16 towns in the East. Other regions are South, Midwest and West.
Over the next six weeks, readers will be able to vote once per round for each of the six rounds of voting on Outside Online. Each round of voting lasts five days. The winners of each round advance until the final two towns face off to determine the Best Town of 2015.
Sixteen finalists will be featured in Outside’s September issue.
