Looking to undo what it sees as an injustice, the Narragansett Indian Tribe is appealing R.I. Superior Court Judge Melanie Wilk Thunberg’s decision to allow a November ballot question asking the state’s voters if full casino gambling should occur at Twin River and Newport Grand.
The tribe believes that the state has favored private casinos over its proposal to build one in West Warwick that was turned down by voters in 2006.
A key issue for the Narragansetts was the U.S. Surpreme Court’s ruling that prevented them from putting land into the federal trust required for it to build a casino in Rhode Island.
Do you agree with the tribe that the ruling was unfair and should be overturned?
