JWU unveils redesign of Wildcat Willie mascot

PROVIDENCE – Johnson & Wales University in mid-October unveiled a redesign of Wildcat Willie, the school mascot, at its campus here, according to the school website.
The new mascot was revealed on the Student Athletic Advisor Council’s float during the annual Family Weekend parade on Oct. 19.
In the past, four different wildcat mascots were visible at the school’s four different campuses – in Providence, North Miami, Denver and Charlotte.
The school launched a university-wide contest for a singular design in time to celebrate its centennial. In May, the contest entry by Devon Tsinzo from the Providence campus was named the winner and used to inspire the final design. A professional mascot-design company, working with a committee, developed Wildcat Willie’s final appearance. •
