The third annual Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic raised more than $500,000 to benefit several nonprofit organizations within the state. The golf and softball events brought nearly 50 regional and national celebrities to the Ocean State, including Cedric the Entertainer, Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd and Smokey Robinson.
Basketball hall-of-famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson co-hosted the event for the third time with longtime friend and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Jeffrey Osborne. He was also the auctioneer for the majority of the live auction held during the kick-off reception at the Carnegie Abbey Clubhouse.
This year’s recipients of the fundraiser included The Amos House, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, The Met School, St. Mary’s Home for Children and Rhode Island Philharmonic.
The Celebrity Classic supports organizations and initiatives that promote music and art education in schools, as well as those that provide safe and enriching environments or services to families and children in need.
Major sponsors included Alex and Ani, Bristol County Savings Bank, The Providence Journal, East Commerce Solutions and Xerox.
