SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The University of Rhode Island has appointed business professor Kathryn Jervis interim dean of the College of Business Administration.
Jervis, who started in her new role in January, replaces Mark Higgins, who left the university in December.
Jervis, of the Hope Valley section of Hopkinton, is an authority on health care management finance, and recently led the committee that developed a health care management specialization for the MBA program. She also has won numerous teaching excellence awards.
Donald H. DeHayes, provost and vice president for academic affairs made the appointment.
“We are optimistic about the future of the College of Business Administration and I am confident that we have excellent transitional leadership in place,” DeHayes said.
He noted Jervis’ reputation for service to the college, her “passionate commitment to diversity,” and her leadership in fostering interdisciplinary efforts in health care management, calling those attributes “strategically important” to the university’s future.
Before stepping into her new position, Jervis served as associate professor of accounting and information science, as well as accounting information systems area coordinator.
“I am such a believer in the College of Business Administration and URI and am excited to take on this role,” said Jervis. “I know that the College of Business and the university play a pivotal role in helping to improve economic conditions statewide.”
Jervis earned a doctorate in business administration and accounting from the University of Connecticut, a master’s degree in accounting from URI and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and elementary education from Rhode Island College.
