WARWICK – JetBlue Airways Corp. will kick off its Rhode Island service today at T.F. Green Airport, and Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee was expected to welcome to airline to the state with a ribbon cutting ceremony from 1:25–2 p.m.

Chafee will be joined by Warwick Mayor Scott Avedesian, R.I. Airport Corporation Board Chair Kathleen Hittner, JetBlue Interim President and CEO Peter Frazer and Jet Blue Executive Vice President Joanna Geraghty to celebrate the inaugural flight.

The first JetBlue flight from Florida to land in Providence will be met with a celebration set to include New England Patriots cheerleaders and the Bishop Hendricken High School Jazz Combo.
“There is much to celebrate on this long-awaited JetBlue inaugural day,” Hittner said in a statement. “The enthusiastic response from the community has been extremely encouraging, with impressive load factors on the outbound flights. This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter at T.F. Green.”

JetBlue will provide twice-daily nonstop service to Orlando International Airport and one daily flight to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.
Chafee, who pushed to bring JetBlue to the state, has said he believes the airline’s addition to T.F. Green will have positive effects throughout the state, including the addition of new air service and jobs.
On today’s inaugural flight to Orlando, JetBlue donated seats in support of Give Kids The World Village, a central Florida nonprofit storybook resort that “fulfills the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses by providing their families weeklong, cost-free Orlando dream vacations.” Two wish families from Providence will join the inaugural celebration and travel to the resort.

  1. Of course Scott Avedesian will be there for the ribbon cutting. A hypocrite among hypocrites, he is one of the major obstacles for Rhode Island in improving the economic climate. He continuously badgers the Airport Authority, he makes false statements, he nickel and dimes anything that has to do with the airport. Yet, he is always there for a photo op. This is just another example of cheap, underhanded politics that continues to hurt Rhode Island. Shameful as usual another “Johnny-come-lately political hack.
