NORTH KINGSTOWN – Ocean State Job Lot recently purchased a 22-acre site for $1.28 million on Commerce Park Road in the Quonset Business Park to expand its distribution center.
Ocean State Job Lot purchased the property from R.I. Commerce Corp.
According to David Sarlitto, Ocean State Job Lot spokesman, the parcel had been under lease with an option to purchase. He said the company expects the $49.1 million distribution center to be operational in one year.
In Rhode Island, the company employs 1,085 associates, and Sarlitto said Job Lot expects that number to grow by another 150 once the distribution center opens.
In June, Commerce RI approved $7.8 million in incentives for the company, providing it moves forward with the distribution center and creates 100 new jobs.
The state incentive package includes $3.1 million in Rebuild Rhode Island tax credits to construct the facility, and what is expected to be $1.5 million in exempted sales tax for construction materials.
The state also has agreed to provide up to $3.2 million in state Qualified Jobs Incentive Act credits if the company hires 125 new individuals over a 10-year period.
