MIDDLETOWN – KVH Industries Inc. is debuting the TracPhone V7-IP for mini-VSAT Broadband service for shipboard satellite communication.
The new system is an onboard terminal with a three-axis antenna system and an integrated below deck unit.
The below deck system includes an ArcLight spread spectrum modem and KVH’s IP-enabled antenna control unit – the CommBox-ACU, which includes a built-in CommBox Ship/Shore Network Manager, voice over IP adapter, Ethernet switch and WiFi adapter.
The system will be displayed at the Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine Technology international trade fair in Hamburg, Germany from Sept. 4-7.
“For the mariner, KVH’s new TracPhone V7-IP costs less, is significantly easier to install, and will provide greater reliability than competing solutions that combine discrete components from a number of different manufacturers,” said the KVH release.
According to the company, the V7-IP design reduces the inherent complexity of other maritime VSAT systems that require technicians and parts from third-party manufacturers.
“The TracPhone V7-IP represents a significant leap forward in delivering fast, affordable, reliable broadband connectivity to maritime customers,” Martin Kits van Heyningen, KVH’s CEO said in a statement.
“A major upgrade to our pioneering TracPhone V7 system, the TracPhone V7-IP offers a complete end-to-end solution for managing both IT functions and communications on board the vessel,” said Kits van Heyningen, adding that the system “delivers data at up to 2 Mbps, and has two integrated voice lines that can be expanded to support up to nine simultaneous calls.”
