MIDDLETOWN – KVH Industries Inc. landed an initial $1.3 million order as part of a five-year contract with the U.S. Army valued at $2.8 million.

The indefinite delivery indefinite quantity contract, which the company announced late Tuesday, is to supply its TACNAV Universal Multilingual Display to the Army for use as the gunners display on the M119 Howitzer.

“The M119 Howitzer has a range of up to 19,500 meters, so highly accurate reference information is critical when positioning the weapon,” said the KVH release announcing the contract. “A display that is easy to read in all weather conditions, like KVH’s TACNAV UMD, allows these operators to contribute to mission success by executing their orders in a safe and timely fashion.”

KVH’s TACNAV UMD has a dot-matrix design and is easy to read in all weather conditions, from bright sunlight to complete darkness, according to the company.
