Kennedy joins CleanSlate board of directors

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – CleanSlate Centers last week announced that former U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy has accepted a position on the company’s board of directors.

CleanSlate Centers is a collection of outpatient addiction-treatment centers providing “compassionate, effective, medication-assisted treatment” that utilizes buprenorphine (Suboxone) and naltrexone (Vivitrol).

Kennedy, who represented Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District from 1996-2010, has previously spent time in treatment facilities wrestling with his own substance-abuse problems. Kennedy has dedicated his post-congressional career to securing the advances promised in the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act.

The announcement comes at a time when CleanSlate, founded in 2009, is planning an expansion of its programs. In his role, Kennedy will serve as a key adviser as CleanSlate seeks to establish new treatment centers and increase access to quality, effective treatment and care into locations with demonstrated need.
