WARWICK – Kent Hospital is expanding its cardiology care services with a new affiliation with Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Boston, hospital officials announced Tuesday.
Under the new agreement, Brigham and Women’s Cardiovascular Associates at Kent Hospital will provide services from outpatient consultation to counseling for heart transplantation. The range of services include:
testing and evaluation
advanced cardiac care nursing support
specialized cardiac in-patient units
cardiac catheterization in a state-of the-art cardiac cath lab
arrhythmia services including electrophysiology studies and ablation
advanced imaging modalities
heart failure management
“It is clear there is a demand for the best possible cardiac care in a local, convenient setting that emphasizes a compassionate, caring approach,” Sandra L. Coletta, president and CEO of Kent Hospital and COO of Care New England said in prepared remarks. Thanks to the new clinical affiliation with Brigham and Women’s, she continued, “the new level of cardiac care now offered to Rhode Islanders clearly will redefine the cardiac care landscape here in the state and throughout the region.”
“Brigham and Women’s Hospital is proud to partner with Kent Hospital to provide cardiology services, said Dr. Allen Smith, president of Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization “We have a long tradition of working with community hospitals to provide state-of-the-art care locally.”
Kent is the second hospital in Rhode Island to create an affiliation with Brigham and Women’s Hospital, according to Jim Beardsworth, spokesman for Kent Hospital. The first was Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket in July of 2011. Memorial is now in the midst of establishing a new partnership as a member of the Care New England hospital system.
In response to a question about potential future collaboration between Kent and Memorial hospitals on cardiovascular care, Beardsworth said: “While we would certainly anticipate a great opportunity for coordination of services, we still have a lot of work to do in the process before we can start talking on that level of detail.”
