KENT HOSPITAL EARNED an Energy Star certification from the U.S. EPA. / COURTESY KENT HOSPITAL

WARWICK – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded Kent Hospital its Energy Star certification, the hospital announced Thursday. The certification indicates that Kent is in the top 25 percent of similar facilities for operating energy efficiently and that it meets the energy efficiency performance levels established by the EPA.
“Through this achievement, we have demonstrated our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship while also lowering our energy costs,” chief administrative officer of Kent Hospital Joseph DiPietro said in a statement.
Kent Hospital revamped its energy saving program in 2008 when it launched its “Keeping it Green” program. The program aimed “to manage, minimize and eliminate the use of hazardous materials, to use renewable natural resources and limit the use of nonrenewable resources when possible,” and involved recycling, purchasing green products and sustainable landscaping, according to a release.
Kent Hospital was the only Rhode Island hospital to earn the certification.
