WARWICK – Kent Hospital will join Cigna Corp.’s network of 20 participating hospitals and community health centers in Rhode Island, allowing Cigna’s customers to receive health services from Kent or its doctors at in-network rates, the two organizations announced Tuesday.
The multi-year contract goes into effect Dec. 1.
“We welcome Kent Hospital to the Cigna network and are pleased that our Rhode Island customers will now have more options available when they need access to quality health care,” said Don Curry, president and general manager for New England at Cigna.
Kent, a Care New England hospital, joins 19 other Rhode Island health service providers in the Cigna network, including Care New England members Memorial Hospital and Women & Infants Hospital, as well as The Miriam Hospital, South County Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
As the second-largest hospital in Rhode Island, Kent serves approximately 300,000 residents of central Rhode Island, sees close to 70,000 patients in its emergency room each year and operates 359 beds.
“Kent Hospital’s partnership with Cigna means that more people will have access to an extensive array of health care services,” said Sandra L. Coletta, chief operating officer of Care New England and president and CEO of Kent Hospital. “Helping more people to be healthy and live healthy lives is always an excellent outcome.”
