Kent reports $2.2M in operating income

Posted 12/20/10

WARWICK – Kent Hospital said that its operating income for fiscal year 2010 was $2.2 million, an increase of $1.2 million from the previous year, at its annual meeting held Dec. 8 at the Quidnessett County Club in North Kingstown.

In addition, the creation of a new hospital-based physician group, Affinity Physicians, was announced. About 40 physicians have joined the new multispecialty group that is designed to improve the quality of medicine and services provided to the community.

“The creation of Affinity Physicians is an exciting and new approach to providing quality health care to our community while preparing for health reform and improving patient care by working with the same vision between the hospital and the physician,” said Sandra L. Coletta, Kent Hospital’s president and CEO. “This alignment allows us to be financially prepared to respond to future changes in reimbursement, along with providing for better retention and recruitment of physicians to our region.”

At the annual meeting, the 2010 Kent Hospital physician of the year award was presented to Candace L. Dyer of Warwick, breast cancer surgeon and physician director of the Breast Health Center at Kent.

During 2009-2010, Kent Hospital had 15,592 admissions, 2,472 observation cases, 81,210 inpatient days, 59,374 emergency department visits, 1,031 births, 1,443,091 lab tests, 15,753 surgical procedures and 132,287 diagnostic imagings.
