Kids Reading Across RI announces 2013 book

Kids Reading Across Rhode Island, a literacy initiative for students in grades four to six, will kick off its fourth year on June 1 with a celebration at the Statehouse.
During the event, families in attendance will receive a copy of this year’s featured book, “Inside Out & Back Again” by Thanhha Lai.
The book is a semi-autobiographical novel featuring 10-year-old Hà who flees Saigon with her family at the end of the Vietnam War and immigrates to Alabama. All summer, public libraries statewide will offer free programs inspired by “Inside Out & Back Again.”
Lai will be present at the State House for the day’s festivities, which include a public program and invitation-only writing workshops with the author. There will also be activity centers and exhibits hosted by local libraries. Rhode Island Commissioner of Education, Deborah Gist, will serve as the event’s honorary chair.
Kids Reading Across Rhode Island is a partnership between the RI Office of Library and Information Services and the RI Center for the Book.
