The City Council has final appointment approval.

“Mr. Knight’s over 30 years of operational and administrative experience in the U.S. Navy will be an incredible asset to Providence,” Elorza said in a statement. “I am confident that with his caliber of leadership in the Department of Public Works, we will provide better services to all of our residents.”

Knight’s career spans more than 30 years as an aviator and officer in the U.S. Navy. He served as vice president for administration and operations at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, where he oversaw more than 600 employees and a $95 million annual budget.
