WOONSOCKET – Late Friday afternoon Landmark Medical Center announced that it had laid off 31 employees on Oct. 30, including members of management, administration and patient-care staff.

The layoffs, handled by Special Master Jonathan N. Savage, were being discussed well before Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein approved a management advisory agreement with Prime Healthcare Services, according to Bill Fischer, spokesman for Savage.

All 31 employees will receive benefits that include a week’s severance pay and three months of benefits, according to Fischer.

Throughout the four years that the hospital has been in receivership, Fischer said, “we have sought to implement efficiencies to keep Landmark Medical Center a viable operation.”

Fischer said that the layoffs would not affect patient care.
