KINGSTON – The Independent Insurance Agents of Rhode Island have made a $20,000 donation to the University of Rhode Island, the 23rd time in the last quarter century that the group has made a gift to the school.
This most recent donation – which, as in years past, will be split between funding for scholarships for the College of Business Administration and purchases of books, journals and reference materials for the Robert L. Carothers Library – brings the total given by the IIARI since 1986 to $477,850.
According to a news release from the URI Foundation, four business students shared a portion of the $10,000 scholarship gift. And the library endowment established by the series of gifts has reached a value of about $447,000.
Mark A. Male, executive vice president of IIARI, said that “our support of URI contributes to the increasing competitiveness of the university, while at the same time ensuring there will be competent and capable graduates interested in a lucrative and rewarding insurance career.”
The IIARI is based in Warwick, with a membership of nearly 200 independent insurance agencies in the state, which collectively employ more than 1,500 Rhode Islanders.
