Lecture series for owners of historical homes slated

NEWPORT – The Preservation Society of Newport County has organized a winter lecture series aimed at owners of antique houses and properties. Preservation experts from Historic New England and Preserve Rhode Island will discuss preservation easements, how to choose period-appropriate paint colors and explain how New Englanders lived in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The “Historic House, Historic Home” lectures will be held at noon on Thursdays, beginning Feb. 11 and will continue through March 31. The initial event will cover “Period Appropriate Exterior Paint Colors for your Historic House,” led by Sally Zimmerman, senior preservation services manager at Historic New England. The lecture begins at noon at Rosecliff, 548 Bellevue Ave., Newport.
The series will continue as follows: “Protecting Your Historic Property with a Preservation Easement,” Feb. 18 at Rosecliff; “The Lost Art of Etiquette,” Feb. 25 at Isaac Bell House, 70 Perry St., Newport; “Maintaining Your Old House,” March 10, at Rosecliff; “Voices from the Back Stairs: Domestic Servants in New England,” March 31, at Rosecliff.
