Lee Hood joins NABsys board

PROVIDENCE – NABsys Inc. has appointed Dr. Leroy “Lee” Hood to its board of directors, the life sciences company announced Monday.
Hood is the co-founder and president of the Seattle-based Institute for Systems Biology, and was involved in the launch of other life sciences companies such as Amgen Inc. and Applied Biosystems Inc., NABsys said.
Additionally, Dr. Hood is the co-developer of several platforms related to the sequencing and synthesizing of proteins and DNA.
“Lee Hood is a true visionary in DNA sequencing, and his achievements and contributions have paved the way for modern molecular biology and companies like NABsys,” said NABsys President and CEO Barrett Bready.
NABsys has been working to develop a new approach to single-molecule DNA sequencing. In February, the company received $7 million in a Series B round led by Stata Venture Partners. Since its founding in 2004, the company has also received funding from the state-backed Slater Technology Fund.
