Library, association promote hearing awareness

Posted 10/26/12

CRANSTON – The Cranston Public Library and the Hearing Loss Association of Rhode Island are collaborating to promote awareness of hearing loss in honor the late Paul Holliday, who was a long-time library employee and member of the association.

Through the collaboration, the association will make a financial donation for the next five years for the library to purchase books and DVDs for the Paul Holliday Memorial Collection on Hearing Loss. The association has provided an initial donation of books toward the collection.

The Hearing Loss Association of Rhode Island offers educational presentations and peer support to its members. It also provides public awareness on the importance of prevention, treatment and regular hearing screenings. The national Hearing Loss Association of America reports that 17 percent of the United States’ population has some degree of hearing loss, making it the third largest public health issue behind heart disease and arthritis.
