Local historical societies host artist, author Vagnone

NEWPORT – The Newport Historical Society and Rhode Island Historical Society have partnered to host Franklin Vagnone, co-author of “The Anarchist’s Guide to Historic House Museums,” for a public roundtable discussion on the value of history-related institutions across the nation.

Also the CEO of the Old Salem Museums and Gardens in Winston-Salem, N.C. and founder and president of Twisted Preservation Cultural Consulting in New York City, Vagnone’s book looks at community-oriented methods of presenting history.

His first Rhode Island event will be part of an ongoing project at historic house museums called “One Night Stand,” in which he will spend an evening at the John Brown House in Providence on Thursday, Feb. 2.

The roundtable discussion will take place the following afternoon on Friday, Feb. 3 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. and is open to the public with students and practitioners encouraged to attend. Lunch will be served and reservations are required. Call (401) 846-0813 ext. 110.
