Malted Barley, Tom’s Bao Bao opening in Kinsley Building downtown

PROVIDENCE – Two new restaurants will open soon on the ground floor of the recently redeveloped Kinsley Building downtown on Westminster Street: Malted Barley and Tom’s Bao Bao.
According to a press release from Cornish Associates, the building owner, this will be the second location for Malted Barley, which also has a restaurant in Westerly.
The 3,500-square-foot restaurant at 334 Westminster St. will feature 34 craft beers on draft with an additional 40-plus bottled offerings, such as ales, lagers and ciders. It also will sell wine and cocktails. The food menu features 17 homemade pretzel varieties, as well as sandwiches, appetizers, soups, salads and desserts. Pretzels will be hand-made fresh daily. The Malted Barley will be open for lunch and dinner, seven days a week; it is expected to open sometime this month, according to its Facebook page.
Tom’s Bao Bao, at 236 Westminster St., is expected to open during the spring or summer in a 3,500-square-foot space. It will feature seasonal steamed buns – known as baozi – and coffees and teas from China. Tom’s Bao Bao operates more than 200 units in China – Providence will be its first U.S. location, according to Cornish. Tom’s Bao Bao’s Facebook page said it also is seeking to open a restaurant in Cambridge’s Harvard Square.
Cornish said that in addition to new restaurants, the building features 44 apartments.
