Manufacturing Workforce Summit planned for March 9 at RIC

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Manufacturers Association and its sister organization makeRI will host the third annual Manufacturing Workforce Summit March 9 at Rhode Island College.

Funded by the Governor’s Workforce Board, the event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Jennifer McNelly, executive director of the Manufacturing Institute in Washington, D.C., will deliver the luncheon keynote address. Other dignitaries expected to attend include U.S. Reps. James R. Langevin and David N. Cicilline, as well as Lt. Gov. Daniel McKee.
The 2016 Manufacturing Summit will involve the sharing of “best practices” in areas of workforce and employee development in manufacturing.

Attendees will include companies seeking to gain information about available resources and successful processes.
The symposium will be comprised of four best practice work sessions: Training & Credentials; Recruitment/Partnerships; Hiring: Challenges/Barriers; and Education/Career Pathways.
Attendees also will learn about the “Dream It. Do It” program about manufacturing careers geared toward educators, students and parents.
“Our local manufacturers are fortunate to have an organization like the Governor’s Workforce Board,” Rob Calef, human resource manager of ChemArt in Lincoln, said in a statement. “The ability to share success stories with your fellow manufacturers, learn about what resources are available to us, and leverage best practices from around the country enables us to attract and retain the best and brightest.”
Rhode Island is home to more than 1,500 manufacturing companies directly employing more than 42,000 people. For information about the summit, contact RIMA at (401) 751-0160 or email rima@mfgri.com.
