PROVIDENCE – After a six-month period as acting president, Mark R. Marcantano has officially been named president and chief operating officer of Women & Infants Hospital, Care New England said Wednesday.
Marcantano, who has been in leadership roles at the hospital since 2010, began serving as interim president in October following the retirement of Constance A. Howes, who left the hospital after 30 years, the last 11 as its president.
Care New England President and CEO Dennis D. Keefe announced Marcantano’s permanent appointment.
“I am confident he will carry on the proud traditions and take Women & Infants to its next level of excellence,” Keefe said in a statement.
?“Women & Infants’ vision is to be the recognized leader in health care for women and newborns. I truly believe that this can be achieved through a commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety and the patient experience,” said Marcantano.
He said he would be guided by four priorities in his first year at the helm: “To provide the highest quality care and best experience to our patients and families; to reduce cost and become more efficient; to recruit and retain the best and the brightest talent; and to continue to advance research and innovation.”
Marcantano first came to Women & Infants from Boston Children’s Hospital where he served as vice president of ambulatory and network services. Earlier, he served as executive dean, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Albany Medical College.
A graduate of New York University and Albany Law School of Union University, Marcantano currently serves on the boards of Meeting Street and the Women & Infants Health Care Alliance.
