EAST GREENWICH – Maria R. (Galligan) Gil, 56, died after a brief illness on March 7 at Kent Hospital in Warwick.

Gil was president of Chase Machine & Engineering as well as co-founder of Professional Records Inc. and of ER Card LLC, said by the company to be the first patient-centric electronic personal health record of its kind.

ER Card was chosen in 2011 by the University of Rhode Island’s College of Pharmacy as part of a study designed to determine if instant-access electronic health records, when teamed with pharmacists making home visits, had any effect on reducing hospital re-admissions.

She spent many years volunteering at Saint Elizabeth Community, serving on the board since 2002 and most recently serving as Board Chair from 2010 to 2013. She sat on the Rhode Island Health Services Council, was a board member for The Kent Center, was a member of the Women Presidents’ Organization and participated in various manufacturing and business organizations.
