Mass. Bankers Association Charitable Foundation awards grants

BOSTON – A record number of recipients will receive gifts this year through the Massachusetts Bankers Association Charitable Foundation during its annual year-end community grant season. The 39 grants in 2015 total $154,000, and both are record amounts. The foundation has now provided gifts totaling $2 million over its 19-year history
The foundation, supported by the 170 member banks of the MBA throughout Massachusetts and New England, is distributing the grants over eight geographic regions in Massachusetts, giving awards to deserving social service agencies.
“These are very deserving nonprofits,” said Gilda M. Nogueira, chairman of the MBA Charitable Foundation and president and CEO of East Cambridge Savings Bank. “There are so many in our region that it is always hard to select a few, but we all take pride in the fact that through the years we’ve been able to continue to donate to many deserving recipients.”
Recipients include Homes for Troops of Taunton, the Cape Cod National Association of Mental Illness in Hyannis, Citizens for Citizens Inc. in Fall River, New Hope Inc. in Attleboro, and The Mustard Seed Catholic Worker of Worcester.
The Massachusetts Bankers Association represents approximately 170 commercial, savings and co-operative banks and savings and loan associations in Massachusetts and elsewhere in New England.
