Mass. House passes casino bill

BOSTON – The Massachusetts House passed a version of the casino bill in a floor vote Tuesday, The Boston Globe reported.
The bill, passed 118-33, outlines three full-scale casinos and one slots parlor. It now goes to the Senate, which could vote as early as today and then on to Gov. Deval L. Patrick.
The casino bill was reached through a compromise that eliminated a provision allowing happy hours at bars, increased money for the state’s horse racing industry, and puts a one-year restriction on state officials involved in creating the bill from accepting a job in the casino industry after they leave government.
The Boston Globe reported Patrick’s “surprise” at money being added to the horse fund and taken away from local aid, but the governor did not say whether he would request any amendments.
