Mass. unemployment rate remains at 6%

BOSTON – The Mass. Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said last week that the state’s unemployment remained steady at 6 percent in June.
According to a news release, the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ preliminary June 2012 estimates show that Massachusetts lost 2,600 jobs over the month following on a revised gain of 5,000 jobs in May.
Total jobs sat at 3.24 million, the department said. Six of the 10 private sectors saw gains, with the largest gain coming in professional, scientific and business services.
A total of 206,900 Massachusetts residents were unemployed. Over the month, 2,100 fewer residents were unemployed and 4,700 more residents were employed. At 3,254,000, the number of employed residents is the highest since November 2008. &#8226
