Mass. Gaming Commission extends deadline for SE casino proposal

BOSTON – Developers behind the proposed New Bedford and Somerset casinos now have until May 4 to complete their applications for the state’s last casino license, the result of a Thursday Massachusetts Gaming Commission vote, according to Boston.com.
Boston.com also reported that KG Urban, the developer behind the New Bedford casino, which would be operated by Foxwoods Resort Casino, completed a host city agreement with Mayor John Mitchell Thursday.
According to the agreement, New Bedford will be paid $12.5 million per year and $4.5 million upfront if the casino is built.
KG Urban had missed an earlier application deadline of Jan. 30 for the license. That date also represented an extension.
The Somerset group is led by developer Crossroads, which had asked for another 21 days to complete the application.
The gaming commission is expected to award a license this fall for the southeastern part of the state.
A third proposal is slated to come for Brockton; its application already has been submitted.
