NEW YORK - Most Americans think Massachusetts residents have the strangest accents in the country, according to a report from Business Insider.
A SurveyMonkey poll of 1,603 respondents found that 16 percent, or 264 of 1,603 participants, voted Massachusetts residents as having the weirdest accent of any state in the union. Responders were asked to rank several criteria in each state other than their own.
Luckily Massachusetts fared a bit better in other categories. When it comes to the smartest state, it landed at No. 1, with 24 percent of the vote, or 342 out of the 1,442 responses. It has some of the best sports fans as well, as it ranked among the top.
Rhode Island was not much of a standout in any specific category other than the most underrated state, where it fared better than most in the region.
On Wednesday, Business Insider published a composite map of all of the rankings.
