Matchmaker eager to fill jobs

“Match.com for the employer and job seeker” is the way Chris Shepherd, founder of The Guide, describes his online employment portal.

The Web-based platform, www.jointheguide.com, does not rely upon keyword searches within resumes the way Indeed.com or Monster.com or even LinkedIn might do, says Shepherd. Instead the company, which began operating in June, uses skills and personality assessments to make sure individuals are the right fit.

“It’s essentially having a platform that delivers uniquely customized insight to help organizations find the best people faster,” Shepherd said. “We can find the right people with the right mind-set and skills to fit in with the organization.”

In addition to a part-time employee, Shepherd, who works from a home-based office in Cranston, contracts with two consultants to help with fee-based job coaching and career development.

Job seekers – The Guide has between 2,500 and 3,000 – can sign up for free. Employers pay fees ranging between $249 for one posting for 30 days and $1,500 for a year of unlimited website use, Shepherd said.

With clients in Rhode Island and across the U.S., so far, about 45 employers have filled jobs through the service, he said. •
