McAuley House launches pro-nutrition initiative

PROVIDENCE – The McAuley House meal site launched a new anti-hunger, pro-health initiative on May 10 piloting the use of an olive-oil, plant-based diet developed by Dr. Mary Flynn, a researcher at The Miriam Hospital, to combat diabetes and other preventable diseases.
The pilot program is funded through a grant from The Rhode Island Foundation.
To help celebrate the launch, first lady Stephanie Chafee, Andrew Schiff, CEO of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, and Dr. Michael Fine, director of the R.I. Department of Health, joined with Flynn as speakers. •
