McCabe targets health care industry with ICD-10

CRANSTON – McCabe Software’s McCabe IQ, which is used to analyze and uncover hidden risks in software, will tackle the health care industry with the ICD-10 Edition.

With the McCabe IQ ICD-10 Edition, McCabe has targeted the health care industry to “help payers and providers precisely target their ICD-10 conversion and testing efforts.”

The software identifies ICD data locations, and impacted paths through source code, according to the company. It also helps to make sure that tests exist to cover ICD data locations and verifies that the remediated code has been thoroughly tested.

ICD-10, which stands for the “International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition,” has more than 68,000 diagnostic codes for procedures and diagnoses, which improve the information available for quality improvement and payment purposes, according to the company. The ICD-9 only included 13,000 such codes.

According to a release, health care providers and payers have only until the already extended deadline of Oct. 1, 2014 to comply with the new classification.

“This is an exceptional situation for McCabe, as we typically do not focus on one industry,” David Belhumeur, CEO of McCabe Software, said in prepared remarks. “However, we recognized that we are uniquely able to deliver a solution to address the ICD-10 dilemma at the source code level. Healthcare payers and providers either comply with ICD-10 or they face severe penalties. McCabe IQ ICD-10 Edition can help them now.”
