Mechanics Cooperative Bank gives scholarships

Mechanics Cooperative Bank recently announced four scholarship award winners. The high school seniors, who will receive $1,000 prizes for their accomplishments, are Katelyn Cappello of Somerset Berkley Regional High School, Shawn Sowersby of Durfee High School and Deanna Pacheco and Steven Tran, both of Coyle and Cassidy High School.

Mechanics Cooperative Bank gives scholarships

Mechanics Cooperative Bank recently announced four scholarship award winners. The high school seniors, who will receive $1,000 prizes for their accomplishments, are Katelyn Cappello of Somerset Berkley Regional High School, Shawn Sowersby of Durfee High School and Deanna Pacheco and Steven Tran, both of Coyle and Cassidy High School.

Cappello, a varsity volleyball player who volunteered with Relay for Life and the Big Buddy Program, plans to study occupational therapy at the University of New Hampshire. Sowersby, who was involved with Durfee’s television station, its theater company and the Red Cross, will major in computer science at Northeastern University. Pacheco, a member of two honors societies, volunteered at the Hopewell School and Nancy’s Family Daycare. She intends to major in marketing at Bryant University. Tran participated in the school band, varsity tennis and various volunteer opportunities. He will study chemistry at Tufts University.

In a statement, Mechanics President and CEO Joseph T. Baptista Jr. said, “Their commitment to success, their school, the community, and the pursuit of higher education is valued and appreciated by Mechanics Cooperative Bank. We wish them the best of luck with their future college careers – we are positive these students will go on to do great things.” •
