TAUNTON – Mechanics Cooperative Bank opened a new branch in Taunton Monday, a relocation of a nearby existing branch, according to an announcement by the bank.
“This new branch is another example of how we are truly making our ‘Let’s Keep It Local’ philosophy a reality,” said Merchants Cooperative Bank President and CEO Joseph T. Baptista Jr.
The bank is “proud to have been able to expand in the city of Taunton while offering our customers a complete and modern banking facility,” he said.
The new branch at 316 Broadway has complete lobby banking services, a drive-up ATM, drive-up teller access and a self-service coin machine. The new branch has five full-time and five part-time employees and replaces customer services at the existing branch nearby at 308 Bay St. The previous location, however, will continue to house some back-office staff and an ATM.
“Mechanics has transformed two problem properties within Taunton over the past three years into functioning bank offices – paying taxes, serving our community and ultimately improving the quality of life for our residents,” said Taunton Mayor Tom Hoye.
Mechanics Cooperative Bank was recently honored with a Small Business Development Award from the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce for the new branch project and for investing more than $1 million in real estate development in the city.
Taunton Chamber of Commerce President Kerrie Babin said the bank is a valuable partner in economic development.
“Their commitment to Taunton and our local business community is clear with the very significant investment,” said Babin.
