PROVIDENCE – The new professional organization, MedMates, which seeks to connect professionals in Rhode Island’s health tech economy, will hold its official kick-off event at the Founder’s League at 95 Chestnut St. on April 24 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
MedMates was created to foster innovation and connectivity within the academic, biotech, diagnostics, government, health IT, hospital, medical device and pharmaceutical sectors, and to drive an ongoing exchange of ideas and opportunities between entrepreneurs and the business community, according to organizers.
“We endeavor to become an enduring resource for business and health-tech innovators in Rhode Island not only for networking and meeting other professionals, but also to drive long-term improvements in health care on a broad level,” said Stephen Lane, chairman and chief venture officer of Ximedica and co-founder of MedMates.
The kick-off event will also feature presentations from leading companies in Rhode Island’s health-tech industries.
Early this year, MedMates was awarded $50,000 in funding from the Rhode Island Foundation for ideas presented during the “Make It Happen RI” event. The money, initially targeted to be used to hire an executive director for the new organization, will instead be used to support MedMate’s efforts to raise awareness and attract new members.
