MedMates to hold social networking event Jan. 13

PROVIDENCE – MedMates, a healthcare technology network group, is holding a New Year social mixer and networking event on Jan. 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Flat Bread Co., 161 Cushing St.

Usually 20 to 50 people attend this event, which MedMates bills as a “great opportunity to connect with your follow MedMates and meet new ones, including experienced and emerging professionals from health-tech companies, hospitals, universities, sources of capital, students and governmental partners.”

The mission of MedMates, which was founded in 2013, is to accelerate health-tech opportunities in Rhode Island. Members are involved in the health-tech field, and range from startups to established companies.

MedMates holds events throughout the year for the business community.

The next event, Startup Law 101 for Health-Tech, will be held Jan. 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, 222 Richmond St.

Entrepreneurs will learn about common mistakes they can make in the early stages of their business, from failing to properly assess and protect their intellectual property to failing to formalize proper equity arrangements among founders. A panel of attorneys will discuss the basics of startup law.
