Medical Society celebrates anniversary

Posted 12/19/11

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Medical Society commenced its celebration of its two centuries of education and advocacy with a book-signing on Dec. 15 that featured the authors of “Medical Odysseys,” a history of the society and its spirited physicians.

The book features commentaries written by Dr. Stanley M. Aronson and Dr. Joseph H. Friedman in the Rhode Island Medical Journal. Aronson, a founder of the medical school at Brown University, is well know for his weekly columns in The Providence Journal. Friedman, a neurologist, has been in charge of the Rhode Island Medical Journal since 1999.

Other events scheduled as part of the bicentennial celebration are a Bicentennial Gala on April 21 at the Rosecliff Mansion in Newport, and a symposium on Neurobiology and Society scheduled for the fall of 2012 at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University.
