Medrobotics recognized by SBANE as ‘rising star’

RAYNHAM, Mass. – Medrobotics Corp. was named a “rising star” in the Smaller Business Association of New England Inc.’s 2015 New England Innovation Awards.
This category is for companies in the early stage of their development and who have “clearly demonstrated the validity of their business,” according to information from SBANE.
Medrobotics Corp. is a privately held, surgical products company. According to its website, its flagship product is the Flex System, a robot-assisted platform based on flexible, steerable scope technology that allows surgeons to see hard-to-reach anatomical locations.
“Once positioned, the scope can become rigid to provide a stable platform through which flexible instruments can be deployed to perform procedures in a way that is not possible with line-of-sight approaches,” the company states.
Medrobotics, which was the only local company to receive an award, was among eight recognized. In addition to the rising star category, companies also were recognized in for-profit and nonprofit categories. A total of 175 companies were nominated for awards, with 20 finalists named. Those finalists had to present to a panel of 68 judges on April 9 at an event. Winners were announced May 6 at the Westin Hotel in Waltham.
“All of our winners have exemplified what SBANE considers true industry agnostic innovation and we are delighted that they have joined an exclusive group of tremendous companies and organizations from throughout New England in SBANE’s Circle of Excellence,” SBANE’s New England Innovation Awards Committee Chairman Todd Faber said in a statement.
Said SBANE President Robert Baker, “The New England Innovation Awards showcases the best innovative companies in our region who possess the most explosive growth potential to expand our economic base. The health of the New England economy depends upon the creative forces of innovation to drive capital formation and job creation.”
