Memorial lactation consultant achieves major first

PROVIDENCE – In 2014, Rhode Island became the first state in the country to commit to regulating and licensing lactation consultants.

The R.I. Department of Health completed the requirements earlier this year, and Michael Fink, who has had a long career in the field already, recently became the first state-licensed lactation consultant in the United States.

Fink started her career as a lactation consultant with the Providence Community Health Center in the late-1980s. She directs the prenatal education program and serves as a lactation consultant at Memorial.
